ARSENE WENGER TOUTED FOR SWISS NATIONAL SIDE

The Swiss national side board has lined up former Arsenal Manager, Arsene Wenger as the top candidate to take over from Vladimir Petkovic who left  to manage French side Bordeaux.

The Frenchman ended a legendary 22-year spell as Gunners boss in 2018 having one time lifted the Premiership unbeaten.

Multiple sources in Zurich claim the former Gunners chief is top of the Swiss FA’s wish list.

Arsene Wenger , 71, has since been working as FIFA’s chief of global football development.

They want a coach who can step in quickly for the national team’s World Cup bid, and see them through to the Qatar finals in November 2022.

He took charge of Arsenal a year later, and led the Gunners to three Premiership titles and seven FA Cups including an unbeaten run in the premiership.

Wenger managed Granit Xhaka who is the current Switzerland captain  for two years after paying Borussia Monchengladbach £35million for him in 2016.

Elsewhere it has beed revealed that Toby Alderweireld was sold to Qatari side Al-Duhail SC for just £3million despite having a contract until 2023 .

Tottenham fans will be left scratching their heads after reports initially suggested the club had pocketed £13million for the Belgium defender.

With the Belgium international having played a pivotal role at the back for Spurs in his 236 appearances over six years, it will surprise many that such a key player would be allowed to leave for so such a low figure. The former Ajax man had been repeatedly linked with Manchester United over the past few seasons, with the United supposedly ready to splash £50million on the defender at one point.

He was an integral part of both Mauricio Pochettino and Jose Mournho’s Spurs sides, but new coach Nuno Espirito Santo seems to not have him in his plans.

In other transfer news, Liverpool have missed out on potentially millions of pounds after losing Yasser Larouci on a free transfer to Troyes.

His contract expired this summer after telling the Reds that he had no intention of renewing his deal last year.
Anfield chiefs desperately tried to sell the defender but to no avail and the 20-year-old has now departed for nothing.

It has meant Liverpool have missed out on a huge payout due to compensation rules in England and  his choice of club will surely leave a sour taste in Liverpool’s mouth with Manchester City the potential benefactors as they are linked to Troyes. Well,  Liverpool’s woes seem not to have an end with yet another hot prospect, teenage talent Ethan Ennis turning down a contract with Liverpool this summer. Ethan Ennis has confirmed his move to Manchester United after leaving Liverpool Academy this summer. The 16 year old had actually been in talks with both Man United and Chelsea after rejecting a scholarship offer from Liverpool and has now revealed that he has agreed a deal with Liverpool’s bitter rivals United in a social media post accompanied by pictures from Old Trafford.

The caption read: “I am delighted to announce that I have signed for Manchester United. Grateful for this opportunity, can’t wait to get started.”

The Reds are now owed a development fee for Ennis, which may be decided by a tribunal should the two clubs fail to reach an agreement.
